04 / The story

I built Snailmail
for me first.

A few months ago I noticed Google was quietly charging me for storage I didn't need. I clicked into the breakdown and 92% of it was Gmail. Almost all of that 92% was junk. Newsletters I'd already unsubscribed from four times. Receipts from companies I'd used once. "We miss you" emails from brands I never wanted to hear from again. Digest emails no human has ever actually digested.

I tried every inbox cleaner I could find. Most cost $40 a year. Most quietly sold email data to data brokers. The ones that didn't were either painful to use or barely did anything.

So I built mine. I called it Snailmail because a snail named Gary felt like the right metaphor. Slow, steady, eats whatever's left out, frees up the space. I wrote every line of code myself. I designed the brand. I built the dashboard. I do the customer support. If you email me at gary@getsnailmail.app, that's me on the other end.

Snailmail does two things and does them well. It cleans the spam from your Gmail and it frees up the Google storage you didn't know you were paying for. That's it. We don't have a "premium tier with more features." We don't sell your data. We don't run ads inside the product. The thing you sign up for is the thing you get.

I'm building this in public, one user at a time. If you sign up, you're not customer number 47,832. You're customer 30 or 100 or 250 and there's a real chance I'll know your first name.
